Flu season is off to an early start

According to the CDC, flu season is officially underway -- that is, the threshold of a significant percentage of health care visits due to flu-like illnesses for at least 3 weeks in a row has been reached.

The influenza activity so far is concentrated in the Southern United States and there is evidence of heightened activity of the B strain of the influenza virus (B strains usually are seen in March or April)

Pharmacists and other vaccine providers should continue to tell patients to get vaccinated.

“The flu season is just getting started; elevated flu activity is expected to continue for weeks,” said CDC.
