POINT OF CARE TESTING

ADVICE CARE TRUST

Laboratory-quality testing on site is now offered for the following tests:

  • HbA1C
    • The A1C test—also known as the hemoglobin A1C or HbA1c test—is a simple blood test that measures your average blood sugar levels over the past 3 months. It's one of the commonly used tests to diagnose prediabetes and diabetes, and is also the main test to help you and your health care team manage your diabetes

    • Non-fasting

    • Collection method:  Capillary blood is obtained by finger prick and analyzed on site

    • Results in about 15 minutes

  • Blood Glucose
    • A blood glucose test is a blood test that screens for diabetes by measuring the level of glucose (sugar) in a person’s blood. Normal blood glucose level (while fasting) range within 70 to 99 mg/dL (3.9 to 5.5 mmol/L). Higher ranges could indicate pre-diabetes or diabetes.

    • Non-fasting

    • Collection method:  Capillary blood is obtained by finger prick and analyzed on site

    • Results available immediately

  • Cholesterol (includes blood glucose)
    • Low-density lipoprotein (LDL) or “bad” cholesterol. Having high levels of LDL cholesterol can lead to plaque buildup in your arteries and result in heart disease or stroke.

    • High-density lipoprotein (HDL) or “good” cholesterol. HDL is known as “good” cholesterol because high levels can lower your risk of heart disease and stroke.

    • Triglycerides, a type of fat in your blood that your body uses for energy. The combination of high levels of triglycerides with low HDL cholesterol or high LDL cholesterol levels can increase your risk for heart attack and stroke.

    • Total cholesterol, the total amount of cholesterol in your blood based on your HDL, LDL, and triglycerides numbers.

    • For best results, fast 8 hours prior to test

    • Collection method:  Capillary blood is obtained by finger prick and analyzed on site

    • Results in about 15 minutes

  • Strep
    • A rapid test for the detection of Group A Streptococcal infection using a throat swab

    • Strep throat is a bacterial infection that can be spread person to person (e.g., coughing,
sneezing) and affects the back of the throat and the tonsils which can become irritated
and swollen and can cause a sore throat that is painful when swallowing

    • No fasting necessary prior to test

    • Collection method:  Sample is obtained with an oropharyngeal (throat) swab and analyzed on site

    • Results in about 15 minutes

  • Influenza A/B Test
    • A rapid test for the detection of influenza type A and/or type B using a nasal swab

    • Influenza is a highly contagious viral infection of the respiratory tract and can be spread
from person to person (e.g., coughing, sneezing)

    • Symptoms include high fever, chills, headache, cough, sore throat, and malaise

    • No fasting necessary prior to test

    • Collection method: Sample is obtained with a nasal swab and analyzed on site

    • Results in about 15 minutes

  • COVID-19
    • Two tests available: rapid antigen and PCR

    • PCR test is more sensitive and can detect the virus 1 day sooner than the rapid antigen test

    • Symptoms include high fever, chills, headache, cough, sore throat, and malaise

    • No fasting necessary prior to test

    • Collection method: Sample is obtained with a nasal swab and analyzed on site

    • PCR results in about 1- 2 hours, Rapid antigen results in 15 minutes

    • PCR test for the detection of RSV, COVID-19, Flu A, and/or Flu B viruses

    • This test can help identify causative agent since all these viruses cause similar upper respiratory type symptoms (fever, chills, headache, nasal congestion, cough, sore throat, and malaise)

    • No fasting necessary prior to test

    • Collection method: Sample is obtained with a nasal swab and analyzed on site

    • Results in about 1- 2 hours
